Smitten with the new stairs…

Hi all,

After one month of construction on the new beach stairs, the results are stunning! The structure feels both solid and airy, affording magnificent views of the bay from thoughtfully placed landings and benches along the way down to the beach.

With ramp access severed to permit the final connection between the lower and upper sections of the structure, the beach will be inaccessible for the final few weeks of construction. In the meantime, you can enjoy some images of the new access structure, taken on Friday, October 7.

The Board is communicating regularly with all homeowners on construction progress. Please contact them at chihoatruro@gmail.com with any questions.

Your journey begins with a commanding view of the water…

… and continues down flights of stairs with wide treads and a relatively gentle slope, punctuated by landings along the way

Most of the landings feature benches like this one - the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset, or a morning coffee!

This image gives you a sense of the quality of the construction - pressure treated wood, with composite railings for a secure, splinter-free grip

The structure is supported by helical posts - metal pilings that can be driven more deeply into the ground with less soil disturbance

The new stairs float above grade, allowing for light, air and re-vegetation of the coastal bank

Used as a construction staging area, the old ramps will ultimately be removed, and the gully underneath them filled in with new soil and vegetation to control erosion

A view up from the beach - this final connection point between the old “crow’s nest” and the new structure will be the most complex phase of construction
